Excitement is building at St. Ignatius College Preparatory as the school, in collaboration with WolfByte Robotics, prepares to host the 2024 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Qualification Competition on December 14, 2024. This highly anticipated event will bring together teams of young, innovative minds from across the region to compete in a thrilling showcase of creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.

What is FIRST LEGO League?

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a global competition that introduces students ages 9-16 to the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through fun and engaging challenges. Teams work together to build and program autonomous LEGO robots that perform specific tasks on a themed playing field, known as the Robot Game. In addition, participants engage in a Project Challenge, where they must research and present an innovative solution to a real-world problem related to the season's theme.

The 2024 season’s theme, "Submerged," focuses on exploring the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future through robotics and automation.

A Day of Robotics, Innovation, and Fun

This year's Qualification Competition at St. Ignatius College Preparatory promises to be a fantastic event for participants, coaches, and spectators alike. Teams will compete in the following categories:

• Robot Game: Teams will demonstrate their robot's ability to complete a series of challenges on a themed playing field.

• Project Presentation: Teams will showcase their innovative research and solutions related to the season's theme.

• Core Values: FLL emphasizes teamwork, inclusion, and innovation. Judges will assess how teams embody these core values throughout the competition.

How to Get Involved

• Spectators: The event is open to the public, and we encourage families, friends, and community members to come and cheer on the teams! It's a great opportunity to witness the next generation of engineers, programmers, and problem-solvers in action.

• Volunteers: Hosting such a large-scale event requires the help of dedicated volunteers. If you're interested in supporting the competition as a judge, referee, or general volunteer, please reach out to the event organizers at wolfbyte5822@ignatius.org or register to volunteer
